A Saturday Morning Classic: 5 Fun Facts About The New Duck Tales

I was, without a doubt, a TV kid. My parents both worked so whether I was at home or at a babysitter’s house, I was watching the classics – He-Man, Jem and the Holograms, DuckTales, Snorks, Thundercats – all of the Saturday morning cartoon favorites.

Sadly, most of these shows are no longer on television, or they’ve been remade into a horrible film version for today’s youth. At least in the case of DuckTales, I no longer have to scour the internet for old episodes of one of my favorite shows; DuckTales has been updated for a new generation and is returning to Disney XD.

Duck Tales return to Disney XD

It’s finally here! Tomorrow, Saturday August 12 is the premier of Disney’s DuckTales on Disney XD!

Here are 5 fun facts you’ll love about the show that has been rebooted without losing what we loved about the original.

DuckTales Fun Fact #1

Did you know the show is almost 30 years old? The show actually debuted as a cartoon movie on television called “The Treasure of the Golden Suns” on September 18, 1987.

The new series will also kick off as a one-hour television movie tomorrow and will run for 24 hours straight.

DuckTales Fun Fact #2

You might hear some familiar voices when the show debuts this month. Voice talent includes Danny Pudi (Community) as Huey, Beck Bennett (SNL) as Launchpad McQuack, Bobby Moynihan (SNL) as Louie, Kate Micucci (The LEGO Batman Movie) as Webby Vanderquack and David Tennant (Doctor Who) as Scrooge McDuck.

David Tennant is Scottish, as is his character Scrooge McDuck. This is the first Disney production where Scrooge McDuck is voiced by an actual Scot; all his previous voice actors were American.

The cast of the new DuckTales includes David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck

We’re also very excited to hear that Lin-Manuel Miranda will also be making at least one guest appearance as Gizmoduck, a Duckburg hero whose true identity is Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera (don’t tell anyone we told you).

DuckTales Fun Fact #3

Even the theme song got a fun reboot for the new series! It’s nearly identical to the one Mark Mueller wrote years ago but this time, Felicia Barton is providing the voice talent. Extra fun fact? She’s Stuck in the Middle star Malachi Barton‘s mom!

Or, perhaps you might enjoy seeing the new cast of DuckTales take a crack at singing the theme song.

DuckTales Fun Fact #4

Diving into a pit of money isn’t as easy as it looks, especially if they’re gold coins. I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dive into Scrooge McDuck’s coin-filled vault and it was so difficult to climb out! But, something I would do again and again!

In truth, the “real” Scrooge McDuck’s money vault was said to be 3 cubic acres.

DuckTales Fun Fact #5

McDuck’s nephews, Huey, Louie, and Dewey are far more developed in their characteristics compared to the original series. Producer Matt Youngberg decided to establish a character birth order and used that order to define their traits.

Huey’s the oldest, so he tends to be a little more responsible. Dewey wants to stand out and really come into his own. Louie is fine being the youngest so he tends to get into more trouble by slipping under the radar. According to Youngberg, “Huey has Scrooge’s brains, Dewey has Scrooge’s guts, and Louie has Scrooge’s love of treasure.”
