Last week when the second season of ABC’s Mistresses premiered, I was so excited! Not only have I grown to love this show – a show I was certain I would hate – but I was recently on the set and was able to meet a few of the TV drama’s stars. I’m now connected to the show in a much more personal way and I’m certain that there’s more to this show that I originally believed.
I was invited to this event by Disney as part of a media event. Accommodations and other expenses were paid for in exchange for my coverage of the event, but all opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.
The set of Mistresses is beautifully decorated; I wish I could hire their team to furnish our new home! I loved the quirky, colorful and stylish details, and the set is filled with details! Above is an area of April’s store where the girls can often be seen gathering for drinks or gossip.
Fashion is a huge part of ABC’s Mistresses and again, detail is not something that is overlooked. The outfits above are a few of the ones that were featured in the bar scene of the season premier. We were able to discuss with Hollywood costume designer Roemehl Hawkins her inspirations and creations on the show.
“I look at a lot of blogs; there are a couple of blogs that actually show real people from around the world and what they’re wearing so I’ll pull some [inspiration] from that. I go out and I shop, I read some magazines, but not a lot.”
If you watch Mistresses, you’ll notice that the ladies often gather at April’s store – who wouldn’t? It’s cute and has food and drinks! Above, you see the counter and register area in April’s store.
Secret Revealed #1: Here’s the exterior of Maison Sur Mer, which is April’s shop. This may not seem as exciting as the brightly decorated interior, but for me it brought me to another show I love. Here’s a fun fact that few people know: many television shows share set space. If you look at the canopy of Mason Sur Mer, you’ll notice it says ‘Real Estate’. Above that, where you can’t see, it says ‘Jules Cobb’. Sound familiar? Mistresses shares some of their set space with the show Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox!
You’ll notice this hot spot as the kitchen space in Savi and Harry’s kitchen. This area was featured quite a bit last season and in this season’s premier.
Remember this season’s premier when Harry was arranging their house to sell it, post-breakup? This is where he was arranging dishes for the realtor. I stood where the sexy Brett Tucker (Harry Davis) stood. I’m good with that.
Here is the meeting space at Grey/Mostow/Felker/Mitchell, the law firm at which Savi (Alyssa Milano) and Dom (Jason George) work. I thought it whimsical that one of the founding partners’ last name is ‘Grey’ as Jason George has also starred on Grey’s Anatomy as Bailey’s love interest. Fun fact!
Here is Dom’s office and on his desk is a photo of his own real life children. How sweet!
Another kitchen space you’ll see on Mistresses is April’s kitchen.
Recognize this desk? It was white in the first season and was the signature piece that centered around April getting her creative mojo back.
Secret Revealed, #2: I’m sorry to report, but even the most dedicated Mistresses viewers won’t know this space. Sadly, this is Harry’s new house. As he and Savi find their lives apart, you’ll see this space more and more.
The attention to detail by set designers amazes me! This is another of Harry’s spaces, his desk. Touring the set was so exciting, especially as we recognized much of the furniture and other items on the set. Reps told us that many of their pieces are procured from local shops there in L.A.; it was nice to hear that local shops are being supported and featured.
Catch the new season of Mistresses as it continues tonight at 10EST/9C on ABC.
