A Day With A #Disney Legend: Watch Animator Floyd Norman Create Magic

This week, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition was released so that a whole new generation of Disney lovers can experience this beloved classic. Recently while in LA, I was able to meet the legendary Floyd Norman, one of the lead animators that helped to create the original 1961 version of 101 Dalmatians as well as other Disney classics.

Watching a legend at work can only leave you in awe, your jaw dropped to the floor as you watch his artistically enabled hands create something so magical in such a short time.

Floyd Norman, knew early on that he wanted to an animator. After attending the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, he was hired by Disney as an apprentice and worked his way up to a full time animator sketching cartoons for Mickey Mouse Club, Disneyland TV show and other projects.

Floyd Norman also helped to created revered Disney classics like Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, The Jungle Book, and many others! He said his retirement from Disney occurred shortly after his work on Monster’s Inc in 2000, but he couldn’t stay away from the job he loved and still frequently visits the Disney animation campus and sometimes freelances on projects.

So which Disney classics does a Disney classic say are his favorites? Norman says his favorite movie was The Jungle Book and that Mickey Mouse is his favorite character of all time.
