Holiday entertaining can be quite expensive. From work parties, school parties, small gifts for friends, family and the party hostesses, bringing a dish to pass or providing the dishes for your own party – it can become hectic and costly.
Recently we had the opportunity to try Aldi’s – again. I remember going to Aldi’s years ago when it first came to our area. We would go there for basic staples like canned items or paper products, mostly because I believed that brand names were better. This time around, since I wasn’t an “Aldi Newbie”, I was looking for specific items to help with our own holiday entertaining.
Did you know that Aldi has wine? As in 84+ point, award-winning wines and world-class beers! I’m a sucker for a Riesling, so I tried their Landshut Riesling and really was delicious. Named “Best Buy” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and “Exceptional Value Silver Award Winner” by the Beverage Testing Institute, I would never have guessed that it was only $4.99 a bottle.
If you’re a fan of the red wines, I recommend the Walker Napa Valley Red Wine, a Silver Medal winner. With flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry and vanilla it goes great with pasta, a comfort food this time of year. At only $7.99 a bottle, you can afford to gift them to friend and pass along to your favorite party hostess.
Aldi’s variety of fine cheeses can pair wonderfully with their affordable wines and with specialty cheeses like edenVale Honey Goat Cheese, Creamy Havarti and Chive Goat Cheese, you’re sure to hear some ooohs and aahhhs coming from your kitchen.
We also love their inexpensive dessert options, including their Grandessa Signature Mini Eclairs. They’re found in their frozen section and are good frozen or thawed. These are especially perfect for guests because you can pull them from your freezer, set them on a beautiful plate and they’re ready to eat by the time your guests arrive.
You can find an Aldi store nearest to you, and we’re sure you’ll be pleased with how much you’ll be able to take home and how little you’ll spend!
