Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Announces Identity Of Star-Lord’s Father

There is nothing else that exists this week. There is no life, there is only ComicCon. Sure, I still love/feed/water my kids and husband, but mostly, I’m stalking the #SDCC2016 Twitter feed. And my emails. And Marvel. Also, Pokemon. But mostly ComicCon.

Marvel has had some big reveals this week, not the least of which is the identity of Star-Lord’s father in the soon-to-be-released Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2, and it’s amazing. During the announcement, a clip from, and a trailer for, the film were played. The trailer, set to the song “Break The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, introduces Iesha as one of the film’s new villains, Yondu and Nebula as new members of the team, surprisingly, and Sylvester Stallone introduced as a new member of Nova Corps.

Oh, yeah. Marvel revealed the new Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 logo.
Oh, yeah. Marvel revealed the new Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 logo.

Then, it happens. Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet… and Star-Lord’s DAD! After years of speculation, and wondering if Marvel would follow the lead of the original story in Marvel comic books, we finally know who Star-Lord’s father is!

The trailer hasn’t even been released online yet – at least not one that’s Marvel official – so here’s the breakdown about Ego the Living Planet.

Who Is Ego the Living Planet?

Ego developed just as any other planet did, but it’s not clear if Ego’s consciousness was given to him by the Stranger or if it developed naturally. He is able to change his topography to form a human-like face and has been battled well-known Marvel favorites like Thor, The Fantastic Four, and The Hulk.

But, a second world was also created known as Alter Ego and was given to The Collector. We’re not sure at this point if this will play a role in the new film, as the Stranger planned to one day set his two creations against each other to see which was the strongest.

Star-Lord's father, Ego the Living Planet
Guys, meet Star-Lord’s dad… Kurt Russell

You guys, Ego is literally a planet with a face and intelligence. There’s been no hint as to how Kurt Russell will portray this character, but we do know that very few people, if any, guessed this character as Star-Lord’s father.

As soon as we have the official trailer, we will post it here!

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to open in theaters May 5, 2017. The new Mixtape will hit my iPod as soon as it is released 🙂
