Our NASCAR Ride Along With Dale Earnhardt Jr.

When was the last time you were able to go nearly 180 miles an hour on a NASCAR track? For my fiancé, it was just a few weeks ago, when he took to the Charlotte Motor Speedway in the #88 NASCAR with driver Dale Earnhardt Jr!

This is not a compensated post. I am sharing our experience as part of a contest giveaway that we won from Schumacher Homes in conjunction with The Dale Jr Foundation.

It’s been no secret that we’re currently building our dream home thanks to our builders, Schumacher Homes. While visiting their office a few months ago to turn in some paperwork from our bank, we entered to win a chance for a ride along with NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. While I’m a relatively new fan of NASCAR, my fiancé has been a long-time fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr. so entering the contest was fun, but finding out that we WON was beyond expected and definitely a welcome surprise.

Doug and I spent an amazing weekend in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, visiting the NASCAR Hall of Fame, interviewing Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his family and, of course, enjoying a few laps with Jr. We even received a pair of autographed skeleton gloves – trademark gloves exclusive to him!

What surprised me most was how absolutely sweet and soft-spoken – almost shy – Dale Jr. was. He was definitely accommodating, taking his time to autograph a few items for us, taking photos with us and sitting with us during an interview session. Above is my love, Doug, Dale Jr, me and a rep from Schumacher Homes in front of one of Dale Jr’s cars.

We were also given tickets to attend the Bank of America 500 NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and was given a tour of the garage area of the Speedway. We were able to see the drivers’ trailers, some of the pre-race events, and how the cars are inspected by officials before the race.

We also met Dale Jr’s brother, Kerry Earnhardt, who partners with Schumacher Homes to design their Earnhardt Home Series as well as spearheading his own outdoor sports company, Earnhardt Outdoors. We also met his sister, Kelly Earnhardt-Miller who is the co-owner of JR Motorsports. Rene Earnhardt, married to Kerry, was one of the sweetest people I’ve met! She also helped to design the Earnhardt series of homes for Schumacher Homes, has her hand in the Earnhardt Outdoors family business, and we even discussed some of the amazing work of the Dale Jr. Foundation.

So, it’s very likely that I’m partial, but that’s one sexy race car passenger.

These cars are difficult to climb in, especially for a 6′ 3″ fella!

  • wow, very exciting! Looks like you both had a wonderful time, congrats on such a neat win! Thanks for sharing the photos with your readers!

  • OMG I am so jealous! I became a fan of Dale Jr in 2001. I happened to be watching the Daytona 500 that year, and my heart just went out to him after I found out what happened to his Dad. I had to keep watching to find out if he would keep racing and if he would be ok.

What an amazing experience! Congrats on the awesome win!

    • Thanks – it was so awesome. It was my first race and I can’t wait to go to more. Even though Bowyer is my favorite, I now have a soft spot in my heart for Jr. He was so sweet and friendly.
