This year, Disney’s Pinocchio turns 77-years-old. That seems like so long ago, but this beloved film has been a part of childhood for generations. Pinocchio is filled with well-known songs, life lessons, and some of our favorite Disney characters of all time.

On January 31st, Disney will release a collectible Pinocchio Signature Collection Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD and to celebrate its release, The Walt Disney Family Museum created a special exhibit. We recently visited the museum and the stunning Pinocchio-themed exhibit which helped bring back so many memorable childhood memories and reinvigorated my love for the film.

The Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio exhibit was open to the public from May 18, 2016 to January 9, 2017, and featured an up close and personal look at the artistic process and behind-the-scenes exclusives never before seen by most. Visitors to the museum were given a chance to explore how one of the most influential animated films in history was produced.

With the help of guest curator John Canemakerโ€”an Academy Awardยฎ, Emmy Award, and Peabody Award-winning independent animator, animation historian, teacher, and authorโ€”visitors were able to see the production processes of the pre-digital era and insight into how some of Disney’s original animators created the film.

The exhibit featured more than 300 objects that offered a unique insight into the film’s settings, color, mood, character relationships, and style that helped create Pinocchio, a film which has delighted audiences for over 75 years.

Besides being an amazing, heart-warming film that become one of Disney’s most beloved, Pinocchio inspired advances in character development and three-dimensional design, and the exhibit allowed visitors to get a first-hand look at how creators made it all possible without the help of digital or technological advances today.

    • I was surprised at how violent some of the scenes were, but the kids didn’t seem to mind. Still a bit scary for my 6 year old.
