Guardians of The Galaxy

Not a comic book fan? Feel like the new Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy movie might just be for nerds? Here are 4 reason why it’s absolutely NOT and why you shouldn’t miss it, in theaters August 1st.

1. Get familiar with the Guardians of The Galaxy because they’re awesome. Marvel has a history of pretty awesome superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, but we know that we can all relate better to a rag-tag team of antiheroes. This group has an ass kicking raccoon with a rap sheet, a deadly assassin with a heart of gold, a sexy stealth assassin, a warrior looking to avenge the death of his family and their unlikely leader.

2. Despite their looks in the film, this is a star-studded cast! The lineup includes Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious franchise, Riddick), Chris Pratt (TV’s Parks & Recreation, The Lego Movie), Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek), Bradley Cooper (American Hustle, The Hangover trilogy), Benicio Del Toro (Sin City, Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas) and more!

3. There’s a deep story behind the characters besides their being a kick ass team that comic book nerds love. Drax The Destroyer (played by pro wrestler Dave Bautista) was a human named Arthur Douglas until Thanos (father of Gamora, portrayed by Zoe Saldana) murdered Arthur and his family. Arthur’s spirit was placed in a new body and he became Drax the Destroyer. Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) is half human/half alien and was an astronaut for NASA. Gamora is the adopted daughter of the evil Thanos and turns away from the dark side because of her dad’s likelihood to, well, kill everyone. Groot (played by Vin Diesel) and Rocket Raccoon (played by Bradley Cooper) have a friendship like no other and they always have each others back.

4. For existing Marvel fans, there are a lot of tie-ins to our favorite films. The fate of the world is in the Guardians’ hands. It’s believed that they protecting a mysterious orb – likely one of the six infinity gems. The gems, along with the Infinity Gauntlet (the glove-like thing seen in the first Thor). Whoever controls the Gauntlet has complete control over time, space and reality. The other gems include the Tesseract (mentioned, or seen, in Captain America, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers) and the Aether (Seen in Thor).

So there you have it. Four simple reasons why going to see Guardians of The Galaxy will not be a disappointment, even if you’re not a comic book fan or know anything about its history.
